Report Finds Product Configurators Improve Order Accuracy 500% with 2% Margin Increase
Toulouse, France and Chicago, Il, USA, June 23, 2010
Cameleon Software (PAR:CAM), the global leader in product design, sales configuration, quotes, and proposals software was included in a report from leading analyst firm Gartner which has found that “although configurable product value chains with mature configuration processes have a 2% margin improvement and a 500% increase in order accuracy, these processes are nascent, with most companies leaving money on the table.”
The report by Jane Barrett, Regina Denman and Michael Burkett of Gartner (December 10, 2009), entitled ‘Of Configurators and Configuration: Lessons from Leaders’ examined 80 manufacturers and evaluated configuration products from vendors including Cameleon Software (formerly Access Commerce) to come to its conclusions.
One of the key findings of this report is that as organizations move away from providing only physical products to a combination of products and services, it is essential for them to implement new techniques and technologies to simplify an increasingly complex sales process. Interestingly, according to Gartner, “in our interviews, only 10% of manufacturers include services or consider the lifecycle implications in technology selection—our discussions were all about product configuration, with services quoted and sold separately.”
“Companies are continually building out more complex solutions to add value and prevent commoditization,” wrote Jane Barrett, distinguished analyst at Gartner. “As they do this, they must integrate processes and align teams to pull together the needs of sales, engineering, manufacturing, and services into a total solution.”
“It is encouraging to see so many manufacturers benefiting from their use of product configurators,” said Cameleon CEO Jacques Soumeillan. “We are also seeing tremendous growth in the use of configurator software in non-manufacturing industries such as telecommunications and insurance, and anticipate many more fields that have not used these types of systems previously to begin to do so as they realize the benefits they can provide.”
